Hoko is a multi-disciplined artist who grew up in the Karangahake Gorge, New Zealand, with a strong focus on dark and neoclassical art. After getting his first tattoo at age 17, he became enamored with the craft, and before he knew it, he was apprenticing at a local tattoo studio. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength in his career, having worked in some of the most renown studios around New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the USA, and winning awards at tattoo conventions around the world.

When not tattooing, Hoko can be found riding motorcycles, working on a myriad of artistic endeavors, watching A24 films, or playing through Dark Souls for the hundredth time. Hoko is particularly influenced by artists such as Gustave Dore, Alphonse Mucha, Beksinski, Peter Paul Rubens, and John Martin.
